Solution:

What are the differences between Dongle and Token? How can I differentiate and does token can be used as dongle?

Answer:

Secure Dongle:
– Smart Chip based hardware architecture and has its own bundled firmware and utilities.
– Has 8 bytes password generated by user’s own secret code.
– More to licensing purpose and protect any application from being duplicated using the tool provided.
– Can store any important data into the dongle and can create own algorithm (to prevent hackers)
– Can remote update the dongle (for e.g License Update remotely) by using the tool provided.
– Has its own API function to protect any application with various types of programming languages.

ST3:
– Secure Microprocessor Smart Chip based.
– Auto Install Model. No installation needed for middleware.
– Middleware supports PKCS#11 and MIcrosoft CAPI applications
– Can do a digital signature and install the certificates inside the token (digitally signed by trusted CA).
– Supports multiple PKI and smart card applications.
– Built-in support for RSA, DES, 3DES, MD5 and SHA-1 algorithms
