Secugen Reader Driver Error “Invalid Digital Signature”

Symptom:

Secugen Device cannot be detected on Windows 7 x64 Ultimate Service Pack 1

Windows Device Manager shows error code 52 (“Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the driver required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged. or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)”)

Root Cause:

The device Driver is digitally signed using a Digital Certificate with SHA-2 Algorithm however Windows 7 x64 doesn’t support SHA-2 Algorithm.

Solution:

Run windows update or manually install the patch from Microsoft (KB3033929) https://www.microsoft.com/en-my/download/details.aspx?id=46148
